Family Bird & Nature Walk – Saturday, May 27 at 9 a.m.
Learn about this amazing natural area, with a rare dune forest between untouched beach dunes and salt marsh. Birds (both song and shore) and butterflies are plentiful. Binoculars can be provided. Nature activities, coloring sheets and a scavenger hunt are also available for kids! These walks of approximately one mile in length last about an hour and a half, and are fun for novice and experienced birders alike.
Ecology of the Dunes and Beach – Sunday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 31 at 10 a.m.
How did our barrier islands get here? What unique animals and plants live here? What endangered species use our dunes and beaches? How have the dunes changed over the last two centuries, and what does the future hold for them? Get answers to these questions and many more in a family-friendly, multimedia and outdoor exploration of the barrier island ecosystems.
All programs start at the Visitors’ Center, located at 12001 Pacific Ave. (Ocean Drive), just west of Wildwood Crest. No pre-registration is required, but sunscreen, insect repellant and water are recommended. For more information or directions, email info@friendsofcapemayrefuge.org.
