East Lynne Theater Company’s “Rodgers’ Romance” not only has audiences leaving with smiles on their faces and songs in their hearts, but is also receiving excellent reviews. Here’s a selection from reviewer Tom Sim’s for “Exit Zero:”
“The cast couldn’t be more engaging. Clare O’Malley, Maggie Johnson, Patrick Burr and Aaron Bell embraced the emotion of the lyrics, the feeling behind the words, and they embraced us, the audience. The songs were tailored for the personalities of the four as well as the simple, elegant fashion they wore. To call this a concert would be misleading. Each song is told as a tale with delight, love and passion. The theatrical work of the cast compares with any dramatic performance as they serenade the audience with remarkable storytelling through the songs.”
As if this weren’t enough, “Rodgers’ Romance” also involves a nightly trivia competition, with the winner receiving a gift certificate to a local business!
The director is David-Michael Kenney “DMK” who first created this revue for Sellersville Theatre. Musical director and accompanist is Charles Gilbert whose body of work includes Musical Theater Coordinator for the film “Jersey Girl.”
“Rodgers’ Romance” runs four nights weekly, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. through July 23 at The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, 500 Hughes Street. Tickets: $32 to $17; ages 12 and under free. Information/reservations: (609) 884-5898 or www.eastlynnetheater.org.
