Events this Week: September 13 – 20

Welcome to the last official week of Summer! There are lots of events slated for this weekend, including the Ocean City Airshow, the New Jersey Fireman’s Convention in Wildwood, and the Harvest Brew Festival in Cape May. But be sure to keep an eye on the weather – Hurricane Lee will make landfall this weekend, so double-check with event organizers if the weather is especially dicey.

Beachside Science: Monarchs and Migration in Avalon 

Wednesday, September 13 from 6 to 7 p.m. 

Surfside Park, 2901 Avalon Ave, Avalon 

From tiny Monarch Butterflies to giant Bald Eagles, the Avalon Coast sees a myriad of animals passing through. Come learn about the journeys of these animals, where they came from and where they’re going! Includes a live Monarch tagging demonstration, as available. The seating area is grass. Bring a blanket, towel, or chair to sit on. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved into Community Hall 

New Moon Lighthouse Climb 

Thursday, September 14 from 8 to 10 p.m. 

Cape May Point Lighthouse 

Climb the 199 steps to the top of the Cape May Lighthouse on evenings of the new moon the moon is so dark it blends in with the night. Stars are more visible on clear nights during the new moon. 

Migration Workshop 

Thursday, September 14 at 11 a.m.  

Cape May Point State Park  

Join Cape May Bird Observatory Interpretative Naturalists as they explain how birds of all shapes and sizes are able to complete their annual migrations, as well as why Cape May is one of the best places to witness this incredible natural phenomenon! Meet at the East Shelter, the picnic pavilion next to the Hawkwatch Platform.

Middle Township Community Yard Sale 

Sept. 15-17 

Set up a table or two and greet neighbors at the annual community-wide yard sale No permits are needed for this event. The 6th annual Cool Cape Cycle Event 2023 

Saturday, September 16 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event will take place at Boat Drinks from Ferry Park at the Cape May Ferry. There are 4 Treks to pick from 3 in Cape May and County and 1 in Lewes Delaware in which your ticket to/from is included. You can only board from the Cape May side.

Avalon History Center Lecture: Prohibition

Join speaker, Mike Dixon, as he shares colorful stories of rum runners, moonshiners, bathtub gin, intriguing personalities, complicated politics, organized crime, outgunned lawmen and the temperance movement, with a special spotlight on New Jersey’s story. 

Ocean City Airport Festival 

Saturday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Ocean City Airport 

Features include a ground display of unusual airplanes ranging from World War II Planes to Classics and Warbirds. The event will feature a parachute jump from Team Fastrax. 

Ocean City’s Air Show Weekend 

Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-17 

Ocean City Boardwalk 

A parachute pyrotechnics show will will go off over Ocean City at 8 p.m. on Saturday the 16th. On Sunday the 17th, air shows from different air teams will be visible from the boardwalk starting at 1 p.m.  

Harvest Brew Fest 

Saturday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Emlen Physick Estate 

Enjoy craft beers and more during this all-day festival that features local food vendors, local artisans, local breweries and local musical talent. The festival is free to attend, and proceeds support the ongoing restoration of Cape May MAC historic sites, the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse and the 1942 World War II Lookout Tower. 

St. John Lutheran Church Craft & Vendor Show    

Saturday, September 16th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

1001 Central Avenue, Ocean City.  

This inside show, featuring 25 vendors, will take place in Fellowship Hall and Lounge of St. John Lutheran. 

Hispanic Heritage Festival 

Saturday, September 16 from 3 to 8 p.m. 

Byrne Plaza, 3400 Pacific Ave, Wildwood 

Enjoy music from DJ Chino and live band, Eco del Sur. There will be vendors selling Hispanic merchandise, delicious traditional foods, and so much more. Plus, admission is free! 

Muddy Schnitzel Family Fun Run 

Saturday, September 16 at 10 a.m.  

Morey’s Piers in Wildwood 

Lace up your sneaks and prepare to get muddy in Morey’s Piers first annual Muddy Schnitzel, a family mud run on the beach between Mariner’s and Adventure Piers.  The course is about 1 mile long and features over a dozen obstacles, including water pits, an army crawl, king of the dune, and tube scramble.
