Welcome to the last official week of Summer! There are lots of events slated for this weekend, including the Ocean City Airshow, the New Jersey Fireman’s Convention in Wildwood, and the Harvest Brew Festival in Cape May. But be sure to keep an eye on the weather – Hurricane Lee will make landfall this weekend, so double-check with event organizers if the weather is especially dicey.

Beachside Science: Monarchs and Migration in Avalon

From tiny Monarch Butterflies to giant Bald Eagles, the Avalon Coast sees a myriad of animals passing through. Come learn about the journeys of these animals, where they came from and where they’re going! Includes a live Monarch tagging demonstration, as available. The seating area is grass. Bring a blanket, towel, or chair to sit on. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved into Community Hall

Climb the 199 steps to the top of the Cape May Lighthouse on evenings of the new moon the moon is so dark it blends in with the night. Stars are more visible on clear nights during the new moon.

A parachute pyrotechnics show will will go off over Ocean City at 8 p.m. on Saturday the 16th. On Sunday the 17th, air shows from different air teams will be visible from the boardwalk starting at 1 p.m.

Harvest Brew Fest
Saturday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Emlen Physick Estate
Enjoy craft beers and more during this all-day festival that features local food vendors, local artisans, local breweries and local musical talent. The festival is free to attend, and proceeds support the ongoing restoration of Cape May MAC historic sites, the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse and the 1942 World War II Lookout Tower.

Lace up your sneaks and prepare to get muddy in Morey’s Piers first annual Muddy Schnitzel, a family mud run on the beach between Mariner’s and Adventure Piers. The course is about 1 mile long and features over a dozen obstacles, including water pits, an army crawl, king of the dune, and tube scramble.
