Events this Week: March 15- 22, 2023

Looking for something to do on the Cape May peninsula this week? There’s always something to do, and things are springing at the shore as Spring draws closer. St. Patrick’s Day is this week, and some events will take place this weekend to celebrate. Find something to do in Cape May County this week! Highlights include a St. Patrick’s Day market in West Cape May, the polar plunge in Stone Harbor, and the Pot of Gold Cleanup at Corson’s Inlet, which your friendly editor will be attending.

Shore Slams

Wednesday, Mar. 15 at 6 p.m.

End of the Road Theater, 3845 Bayshore Rd #1, North Cape May

Shore Slams will feature local participants who will regale audiences with legends,

lies and lore based on their own personal experiences. Stories, poems, original music, etc. will be loosely based on the given theme. Each participant will have 15 minutes to share a story, 5 minutes to share an original poem or 5 minutes to perform an original piece of music. “Judges” are randomly picked from the audience.

Pot of Gold Cleanup at Corson’s Inlet

59th Street and Central Ave, Ocean City

Join the NJ State Park Police for a Beach Cleanup at Corson’s Inlet State Park! Look for the “Pot of Gold” Park Police has hidden somewhere along the beach while picking up litter! Litter bags will be provided, but please bring your own gloves and grabbers. Parking is available at 59th Street and Central Ave.

Stone Harbor Shiver

Saturday, Mar. 18

Get ready to take a chilling plunge into the Atlantic Ocean for the annual Stone Harbor Shiver! Gather your friends and family for a pre-registration party at the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor on Friday evening, followed by Kegs ‘n Eggs at Freds to kick off the celebration on Saturday morning. Join the parade to 95th Street beach and enjoy the costume contest, and then jump into the icy ocean…for fun!

Irish Dance Performance

Saturday, Mar. 18 at 1 p.m.

Avalon Free Public Library

Members of the Emerald Isle Academy of Dance return to perform Irish dances to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. In 2016, they were recognized as the best children’s dance group in the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day parade – their performance will showcase a variation of dances, including reels and jigs, ranging from the beginner to advanced levels.

Surf Dogs and Sandy Paws Dog Hike

Sunday, Mar. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join Megan and her furry friends on her first official beach hike at Corson’s Inlet State Park!

Hikers will meet at the boat ramp parking lot on Ocean Drive, right before the first bridge to Strathmere. The hike is approximately 2.5 miles. Make sure your dog is leashed, and bring waste bags.

Girl Scouts ‘Passport Around the World’

Sunday, Mar. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wildwoods Convention Center

Girl Scouts will present displays for countries around the world at the Wildwoods Convention Center from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Travel from table to table and experience activities from different countries such as crafts, games, songs, traditions, foods, beverages, tours, or displays. Tickets are $12 for scouts and $7 for adults.

Wildwoods Spring Wedding Expo

Sunday, Mar. 19 from 12 to 4 p.m.

Wildwoods Convention Center

Come out to South Jersey’s largest FREE wedding expo featuring everything you need to plan your perfect wedding! Birding the South Cape May Meadows

Join local naturalists for this 2-hour walk around The Nature Conservancy’s South Cape May Meadows property! The spring birding can be very rewarding at this freshwater wetland for lingering waterfowl and migrant shorebirds. $8 for members, $12 for non-members. Please pre-register in advance.

Belleplain “Day of Forests” Hike
