Events this Week: January 10 – 17, 2023

Roller Skating in Cape May 

Friday to Sunday all January long 

Cape May Convention Hall  

In the off-season, the Cape May Convention Hall transforms into a skating rink for all ages. Skate rentals are available. Friday skate is from 4 to 6 p.m. and then again from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday skate is from 1 to 3 and 4 to 6 p.m. For info about special theme nights, check out 

Author Talk: Rebecca Serle

Kick off the New Year talking to Rebecca Serle about her journey writing epic love stories to span generations. Learning the love story formula with Serle, we’ll chat with the author about her New York Times bestselling novels, One Italian Summer, In Five Years, The Dinner List, and many more.

Design a Winter Arrangement 

Friday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m.  

Avalon Library, 235 32nd St, Avalon 

Bring the beauty of winter into your home! Create a stunning winter arrangement using winter greens, pinecones, berries, and more. Registration is required. Kids aged 4 to 11 can visit the library for winter themed crafts, stories, and fun! 

Wildwoods Polar Plunge 

Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.  

Beach by the Wildwoods Convention Center 

This annual fundraiser raises money for Special Olympics of New Jersey. Come take a daring plunge for a good cause!  

MLK Day Ocean City Cleanup 

Monday, Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

Howard S. Stainton Senior Center, 1735 Simpson Ave # 5, Ocean City

Volunteers are invited to join others nationwide to honor Dr. King’s contributions. In Ocean City, citizens are asked to participate in a citywide cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon. Sign-up and supply distribution will take place at the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center. 

MLK Jr. Ceremony and Soul Food Lunch 

Monday, Jan. 15 at 12 p.m.  

Ocean City Music Pier, 825 Boardwalk  

This event will bring the community together to remember Dr. King through words, song and dance. The event will include community resources and a soul food lunch. 

Avalon – Family Escape Room 

Monday, Jan. 15 from 10 to 6 p.m. 

Avalon Library, 235 32nd St, Avalon 

Grab your family or a group of friends and see if you can escape from the library’s Escape Room! Groups will register for a specific time and will have 30 minutes to solve the puzzles and find the key! Best for up to 8 individuals and ages 10+. Registration is required. Winter Birding Hotspots  

Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. 

Lower Township Library meeting room  

Join the Cape May Bird Observatory’s Program Coordinator, Adehl Schwaderer, and uncover the best locations in and around Cape May County for winter birding. Just because the temperatures drop doesn’t mean the bird diversity does! In addition to learning about new natural areas to explore, Adehl will also be sharing tips on how to identify the birds commonly seen in these places. 

Avalon – Archive Your Family Keepsakes  

Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. 

History Center, 215 39th St, Avalon 

Learn about archiving and preserving your family keepsakes. Bring your photographs and documents and learn how to arrange everything into an organized personal archive, including how to preserve your items for future generations. Each attendee will receive their own workshop kit which includes 8-1/2″ sized file folders, photograph pockets, document sheets, tissue paper, and a flip-top document case for storage.
