Events this Week: February 15 – 22, 2023

This week is super busy for some reason. Lots of great library events, a new convention in Wildwood, a presentation on local LGBT history, and more come to the shore. See what’s going on with our curated list of things to do in Cape May County.

OC Library After School Movies: Warm Bodies (PG-13)

Improv Jazz Concerts in Ocean City 

Sundays in February at 2 p.m.  

Weekly featured artists will exhibit their creative and artistic skills as they improvise, within their designated art form, while an esteemed group of jazz musicians play their music.  

Wetlands Institute Lecture: Plankton Big and Small 

Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. 

Lower Township Library public meeting room 

As one of the most important parts of our food web, plankton actually come in all shapes and sizes. At this lecture, we’ll discuss what plankton are, why they’re so important to our wellbeing, and meet live plankton as well as animals that begin their lives as plankton. 

Teen Event: Anti-Valentine’s Day Murder Mystery Party 

Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. 

This event is for teens in grades 7 to 12. Join the OC Library for an evening of food, fun, and murder. Players choose a character, dress in costume (optional), and use clues to find the murder. For info email sara@oceancitylibrary.org 

NJ Audubon: Wildlife Love Stories 

Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. 

Court House Library Presentation Room 

Join Emily Reed, Program Director of NJ Audubon’s Nature Center of Cape May, to listen to the love stories of the wild. Some creatures mate for life, others go to extreme measures to attract a companion, and then others will bite their partner’s head off after mating…so romantic! There are even some love stories to be told about plants! Drama, passion, partnership, and betrayal, are not limited to human relationships. 

Sea Isle City President’s Day Weekend Celebration  

February 16 – 19  

Events will take place city-wide for this special celebration. Shops and restaurants will be open city-wide. The following spots will have things going on all weekend: Kix, Sidekix, Oar House, Shenanigans, Dead Dog, Ludlam, Beachwood, Ocean Drive and the Sandbar, O’Donnells Pour House, Paddy’s Green  

Ocean City Nature Fun Day  

Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9:30 a.m. to noon 

Ocean City High School Cafeteria 

The event includes interactive education, zoo animals, crafts, games, a recycling activity and more. Come on out to learn more about our county’s delicate ecosystems.  

Mike’s Seafood Run for Autism  

Saturday, Feb. 18 from 12 to 3 p.m.  

Excursion Park, Sea Isle City 

This Event Brings Out Over 4,000 Runners and Walkers to Support Children with Disabilities. Enjoy Door Prizes, Music, Face Painter, Clowns, Superheroes, Food and More! 

Wildwood Winter Maker’s Market 

Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sunday, Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Wildwoods Convention Center 

Come explore the local artisans of the Jersey shore on this exciting weekend in the Wildwoods Convention Center! Admission fee is $1.  

National Cheerleading Championship 

Saturday, Feb. 18 to Sunday, Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Wildwoods Convention Center 

Performances will be choreographed to music and sound effects, and winning teams will be awarded prizes. An admission fee will be charged at the door the day of the event. Children under five are free. 

Local LGBT History  

Saturday, Feb. 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  

Seaville United Methodist Church Hall 

Come hear a presentation on the history of the LGBT community in Cape May County.  

Cape May Crafts and Collectibles Show 

Saturday, Feb. 18 – Sunday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

Cape May Convention Hall 

The annual winter craft show returns! Come see what local vendors and artists have to offer.  

Kids’ Event: Bird Feeder Workshop 

Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. 

Avalon Free Public Library  

Students in Grades K through 6 are invited to come and make some bird feeders. Let’s help our feathered friends this winter!
