Events this Week: April 19 – 26, 2023

This week is really massive – lots of great Earth Day events around the county, a great MudHen-hosted 5k, a dune planting in Avalon, and more events bring good early-Spring vibes to Cape May County. This week’s header photo shows the beautiful Two Mile Landing on a cool April afternoon.

Court House Library Book Sale  

April 17 – 19 between 9 a.m. and 8 a.m.  

30 Mechanic St, Cape May Court House 

Come to the Court House Library between Monday April 17th-Wednesday April 19th for our BIG book sale! Items will be available between 9am and 8pm in the Storytime Room and Presentation Room in the basement, and will include books for all ages, DVDs, video games, playaways, and more! 

Horseshoe Crabs: Living Fossils at the Beach 

Wednesday, April 19 from 6 to 7 p.m. 

Lower Township Public Library 

Every spring at the shore our beaches get visited by a living fossil- the Horseshoe Crab! At this Wetlands Institute presentation, we’ll meet and learn all about the Horseshoe Crab, discuss why so many animals rely on them to survive (including humans) and the research and conservation efforts here at The Wetlands Institute. 

Free Movie Showing: The Princess Bride

Ocean City Free Public Library 

The OC Library plays free after-school movies every week. Free snacks – bring a friend!  

NJ Audubon: Community Science in Action 

Thursday, April 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. 

812 Longfellow Street, Woodbine 

Community Science is public participation in scientific research, and there is a scientist in all of us! Learn about a variety of community science programs that you can participate in for free, both in person or on your phone. Then, we will head outside and collect data on the wildlife in the area. 

MudHen Brewing Co. 5K & Beer Mile 

Friday, April 21 at 6:30 and 7:45 p.m.  

MudHen teams up with Delmo Sports to put on this evening 5k and “beer mile.” This event will start & finish at the brewery in the center of town: first with our IPA 5K, then immediately following with a limited field of Beer Mile specialists in a concert-like atmosphere starting at 7:45 p.m.  

Arbor Day Sapling Giveaway 

April 19 – 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

West Cape May Borough Hall, 732 Broadway 

In honor of Arbor Day, the West Cape May Shade Tree Commission is giving away tree saplings. 

Belleplain Earth Day Dog Hike 

Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m.  

Belleplain State Forest, meet at the main office 

Celebrate Earth Day with a dog hike and fun activities at the nature center! For the dog hike, come out with your *leashed* dogs – meet at the main office before the hike.  

Five Mile Beach Cleanup 

Saturday, April 22 at 9 a.m. 

Wildwoods Sign  

Join Dogtooth Bar & Grill in keeping the Five Mile Beach clean! Meet them on the beach behind the Wildwoods Sign at 9 a.m. and grab a trash bag and gloves. Return your filled bags to receive a $10 GIFT CERTIFICATE to Dogtooth Bar & Grill. 

MudHen’s Earth Day Fair 

Saturday, April 22 from 12 to 5 p.m. 

127 W Rio Grande Ave, Wildwood 

MudHen is hosting an Earth Day Fair featuring local vendors who support the reduce, reuse, and recycle initiative. Nature Center of Cape May will be providing a live touch tank! Face Painting by Donna Cox will be here to transform you into your favorite animal or an earthly green goddess!

The recurring craft show returns for Spring! Come what see local and regional vendors have to offer.  

Wildwood Spring Indoor Vendor and Crafts Fair 

Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Wildwoods Convention Center 

Free to attend – come see wares from local vendors. The award-winning juggler, “The Amazing Larry Vee” will provide entertainment for all ages from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Come bring your family and have some fun!  

Avalon Dune Grass Planting 

Saturday, April 22 at 8:30 a.m.  

3001 Avalon Avenue 

Join the Borough of Avalon for its annual spring Dune Grass Planting. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate. Training and supply distribution will begin at Community Hall at 8:30 a.m. before volunteers head out to their assigned locations. Volunteers will be provided with a bag lunch. Cape May County Earth Day Event 

Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

Cape May County Park, 707 Rt. 9 North, Court House 

Visit the Cape May County Park and Zoo for a day of earth-friendly fun, featuring educational exhibits, children’s activities, live entertainment, eco-shops, a scavenger hunt, and adoptable dogs from Beacon Animal Shelter.  

Lower Township Chamber Community Night 

Tuesday, April 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. 

Naval Air Station Wildwood 

Come out for this free community night where you can chat with community members and local business owners, snack on free food, and learn about the people that help keep Lower Township thriving. Local restaurants will have free samples and Mr. Softee will have free ice cream! Get to know local businesses from across the township with this free event.
