East Lynne Theater Company’s “A Year in the Trenches” is receiving standing ovations. Actors Jennie Bissell, Osborn Focht, Ryan Genauldi, Matt Baxter Luceno, Mike Newman and Tara Reuter bring to life real people who served in France 100 years ago when the United States went to war. Live music is performed throughout, and the audience is encouraged to sing along. This world premiere was written by James Rana and developed with Gayle Stahlhuth, who also directed.
Public television’s “State of the Arts” recently featured “Trenches.” For those who missed it on NJTV and WHYY, visit www.stateoftheartsnj.com/?portfolio=a-year-in-the-trenches.
On opening night, ELTC’s Board President Thomas Raniszewski and several board members presented Stahlhuth with a trophy for her 100th production since becoming artistic director in 1999. Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo’s letter to Stahlhuth included: “Your background and leadership in producing these American Heritage productions has provided educational benefits in addition to entertainment.”
Dottie Knapp, former Board President of the Cape May Film Society, wrote: “Stahlhuth has taken me down the Mississippi on a raft, in a sword fight in old California, and now in the trenches of WWI. My expert tour guide brings me there with attention to detail and unsurpassed artistic style. I don’t just see Stahlhuth’s shows – I experience them.”
Running through Oct. 14, school groups are encouraged to attend a 2 p.m. matinee on Wednesday, Oct. 11 with a $10 ticket price per student.
Location is the First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May. For reservations, call (609) 884-5898 or visit www.eastlynnetheater.org.
