First day of rehearsal for “Rodgers’ Romance”
The music of Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein come to East Lynne Theater Company in the New Jersey premiere, “Rodgers’ Romance.” This revue, filled with well-known songs from musical theater, engages the hearts and minds of the audience. No microphones are used, allowing singers’ voices to be heard naturally in the excellent acoustics of the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, where ELTC is in residence.
As if this wasn’t enough, “Rodgers’ Romance” also involves a nightly trivia competition, with the winner receiving a gift certificate to a local business!
The director is David-Michael Kenney “DMK” who first created this revue for Sellersville Theatre. The musical director and accompanist is Charles Gilbert, whose body of work includes Musical Theater Coordinator for the film “Jersey Girl.”
The cast includes Aaron Bell, Maggie Johnson, Clare O’Malley and Patrick Burr, all new to ELTC. Aaron and Maggie have worked extensively in Philadelphia and were in “An Octoroon” at the Wilma. Clare’s work includes “Private Lives” at the Walnut Street Theatre and “The Dead” at the Abbey in Dublin. Patrick recently appeared in Kenneth Branagh’s “Macbeth” at the Park Avenue Armory in NYC.
On opening night June 15, patrons are invited to join the cast and crew at an after-show party at the Washington Inn.
“Rodgers’ Romance” runs four nights weekly, Wednesdays through Saturdays, from June 15 to July 23 at 8:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes Street. Tickets are $32 to $17; ages 12 and under are free. For more information and reservations, call (609) 884-5898 or visit www.eastlynnetheater.org.
