Drink of the Week: Localarita

This week, we headed straight for the Delaware Bay and the waterfront gem of North Cape May in search for a cocktail that would shake things up. What we found was a mini miracle for all those with unique dietary needs and one of the smoothest margaritas in the County. Harpoon Henry’s makes an extra effort to accommodate patrons with a gluten sensitivity, now featuring a complete Harpoon Healthy entrée menu including gluten-free selections. This week’s drink of the week – completely gluten-free and low calorie -is the latest triumph in this effort.

The Localarita, hand crafted for us by resident bartender Margaret, is made with an organic, gluten-free margarita mix base which contains only lime juice and agave. Without any of the sugary add-ins that characterize most margarita mixes, the Localarita is composed of only the purest natural flavors and tequila for a super smooth finish. In fact, according to Margaret, most Harpoon Henry’s patrons prefer the Localarita “up” rather than on the rocks so as not to “water down” this tart yet sweet natural taste. Though named for our locals, this cocktail will have visitors hooked as well. Sample it at Harpoon’s Happy Hour Monday thorough Friday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Happy Hour deals include $2 Miller drafts, $5 house wine, $6 U-Peel-Um Shrimp, $7 steamers, and $3 onion rings by the half-foot.
