Dogs “Strike a Paws” at Rusty Nail’s 2nd Annual Doggie Pageant

CAPE MAY — On Saturday, September 13, Beach Shack held its second annual Rusty Nail Doggie Pageant with celebrity judges – including Countess LuAnn De Lesseps! After receiving hundreds of entries on The Rusty Nail’s Facebook submission form, 10 dogs were voted to compete in the pageant. Each of these four-legged finalists walked the “doggie-pageant runway” for a chance at the title of “The Official Rusty Nail Dog Mascot 2015”.

Bella, an amazing older boxer, who wore a tattoo, was the winning pooch and will have her photo on the official Rusty Nail Doggie Ale (beer for dogs). This year’s event was hosted by Jorge Bendersky, celebrity dog groomer and pet stylist, author of best-selling novel “DIY Dog Grooming: from puppy cuts to best in show, everything you need to know”. The event was open to the public with a suggested donation of $25 to Animal Outreach of Cape May County for puppy paw-dicures and glitter tattoos.

Winner best in show: Bella – the boxer and her owner, Ron Chiverella Jr. are from Pennsylvania. Bella is almost 11 years old and is AKC/CGC certified – goes to show that older dogs still rock!

The winners of each Competition Category are listed below:
Best Style: Miles, a French Bulldog
Tricks: Bella, the boxer (hi-fiving 30 times to count to 30 – as requested by the judges)
Musical Chairs: Rocky
Beer Chugging Contest: Sidecar, a Golden Retriever

The VIP Judges Included:
Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, television personality, model, author, and singer; Jorge Bendersky, celebrity dog groomer and pet stylist; Jessica Green, Assistant Editor of Philadelphia Style Magazine; and Katie Kane and Aaron Baker, proud parents of last year’s pageant winner Lexi.
