From town-to-town Restaurant Weeks to a highly anticipated Jazz Fest, the first week of June definitely promises to deliver on great cuisine and good times. Check out some of this week’s highlights.

Bach’s Lunch

Back Bay Boat Cruise on the Osprey
Thursday, May 29th from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Lower Cape Library – 2600 Bayshore Rd, Villas

Gain access to some of Southern New Jersey’s wild places aboard the M.V. Osprey. Lord will give a short multimedia presentation at the Lower Township Library about the fauna of the great salt marsh preceding the voyage. We will then cruise the short distance to board the Osprey in Cape May and take a two hour tour of the back bays. While cruising through secure waterways aboard a stable pontoon boat, wonderful opportunities abound to see the wildlife occuring at this time of year.

First mate and naturalist, Dave Lord is a veteran wildlife enthusiast with over seven years of intensive studies into the world of Natural History. He is a well known leader of numerous walks for local organizations, including the Cape May Bird Observatory and the New Jersey Audubon, and has conducted numerous bird surveys for the state of New Jersey. Class size is limited; therefore registration and a valid library card are needed to attend. A $15.00 nonrefundable materials fee is due upon registration. Ocean City Flower Show

2014 Spring Jazz Fest
Friday-Sunday, May 30th through June 1st from 7 to 9 p.m.
Where: Main Stage at Cape May Convention Hall – 714 Beach Avenue, Cape May

Join Congress Hall for the Spring Edition of the 2014 Exit Zero International Jazz Festival in Cape May, May 30th – June 1st! Three-time Grammy Award winner, Dee Dee Bridgewater, will headline the Festival on Friday, May 30, followed by two-time Grammy Award winner, Roy Hargrove headlining the Convention Hall Main Stage on May 31, and “A Night In New Orleans,” a Festival collaboration with the Mid Atlantic Center for the Arts on Sunday, June 1, featuring the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Kermit Ruffins and the Barbecue Swingers.

In addition to the Main Stage concerts at Convention Hall, the Exit 0 International Jazz Festival will also unveil “Jazz at the Estate” on Saturday, May 31 on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May. The outdoor stage will feature music from 12:00pm – 6:00pm, as well as a wine and beer tent, food vendors and South Jersey artists and craftsmen. The festive atmosphere runs throughout the weekend virtually around the clock with artists performing in at least 5 other club venues, all within easy walking distance of one another along the Cape May beach front. Tour de Cape May Bike Ride
Saturday, May 31st beginning at 8 a.m.
Where: Cape May Lewes Ferry parking lot – 1200 Lincoln Blvd, Cape May

Hop on your bike, strap on your helmet and join the Tour de Cape May on Saturday, May 31, for a 10- or 20-mile ride – more or less, as you choose. The event is a ride, not a race, so any bike will do as you pedal along at your own pace enjoying the peaceful countryside and beautiful water views.

The ride begins at 8 AM at the Cape May Lewes Ferry parking lot. Pre-registration is $10, or $15 on the day of the ride, and includes a free t-shirt and a drawstring bag or wristband. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Registration forms are at www.tourdecapemay.com. Torrential rain date is Sunday, June 1.

4th Annual Fun Family Field Day 5K Run, 1 Mile Walk and Flea Market
Saturday, May 31st from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Martin Luther King Community Center – 207 N Main Street, Whitesboro

The 4th Annual Fun Family Field Day 5K Run/1 Mile Walk and Flea Market hosted in partnership with Jack and Jill of America, Atlantic City Chapter and Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Inc. is a day of pure fun and recreation. From a 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk to games galore including Tug of War, Horseshoes, Jump Rope, Hula Hoop, Jacks, Zumba, Piloxing etc., your family is sure to enjoy the day. South Jersey Walk-a-thon
Saturday, May 31st from 8:30 a.m. to noon
Where: Wildwoods Convention Center – 4501 Boardwalk, Wildwood

Join us for a walk-a-thon on the famous Wildwoods Boardwalk. Registration from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. begins on the boardwalk just south of the Wildwoods Convention Center. Walk begins at 10 a.m. The walk-a-thon route will head north on the boardwalk for fourteen (14) blocks to the intersection of E. Wildwood Avenue and the boardwalk (about 0.55 miles) and then return south on the boardwalk to the starting point. Cold Spring Country Fair
