Do the Shore this week: Sept. 14 – 21

This week is particularly busy in Cape May County. Fall Festival season is in full swing; many popular festivals and end-of-year events are happening in Sea Isle, the Wildwoods, Cape May, and Ocean City. There are also plenty of fascinating talks, presentations, and lectures (don’t be scared off by that word!) where you can learn about our local history and our natural ecosystems.

Spotted Lanternfly Lecture 

Wednesday, September 14 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Local experts will give an information talk on this invasive bug. Come learn more about how the spotted lanternfly impacts our local ecosystem. 

Washington Street Mall Sidewalk Sales 

Thursday, September 15 to Sunday, September 18 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily  

Washington Street Mall, Cape May  

Local stores will have huge sales displayed on the sidewalks of the Washington Street Mall. Lots of stores are about to close for the season, so now is a great time to get good deals on local goods! 

Tea Time at the Avalon History Center

Migration at the Shore, Presented by the Wetlands Institute 

Thursday, September 15 from 6 to 7 p.m.  

Lower Township Public Library Meeting Room 

Every year, the changing of the seasons brings with it a wave of animals migrating through the coast. From the small Monarch Butterfly to the Ospreys in the marsh, we’ll discuss the journeys of these animals as the seasons change. Includes a live Monarch tagging demonstration! 

Centennial Park Concert  

Saturday, September 17th at 7:30 p.m.  

Centennial Park on Fern Road and Ocean Avenue in Wildwood Crest 

The free concert series continues into September with Winslow Band, an Eagles tribute band.  

Firemen’s Convention & Parade  

Friday and Saturday, September 16 and 17 

Wildwoods Convention Center parking lots 

Firetrucks and fire apparatus from around the state will be displayed in the Wildwoods Convention Center parking lots on Friday, September 16 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday, September 17 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Five Mile Beach Volunteer Firemen’s Association will also present an expo of fire equipment and vendors of fire related products.  

The Firefighter’s Parade will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. along New Jersey Avenue, from Cresse Avenue in Wildwood Crest, proceeding north to 26th Avenue in North Wildwood. 

Sea Isle Fall Family Festival  

Saturday, September 17th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

The festival will begin with a Seaside Vendor Craft Market along the oceanfront Promenade.  The popular Fall Family Festival Food Court will be open in front of Excursion Park, located at JFK Boulevard and Pleasure Avenue, where a tempting selection of local delicacies and traditional festival-fare will be on sale.   

Meanwhile, inside Excursion Park, festival-goers will enjoy live music and a variety of free family activities. We will once again have free amusement rides from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Wildwood Crest Firefighters’ Weekend Craft Show 

Friday and Saturday, September 16 – 17 

Sunrise Park at Rambler Road 

Discover one-of-a-kind craft vendors lined along Sunrise Park at Rambler Road and Ocean Avenue in Wildwood Crest at the Firefighters’ Weekend Craft Show. Ocean City Airport Festival  

Saturday, September 17th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

26th and Bay Ave, Ocean City  

The annual festival, hosted at the Municipal Airport, includes a ground display of unusual airplanes ranging from World War II Planes to Classics and Warbirds. The event will feature a parachute jump from Team Fastrax. 

Harvest Brew Fest 

Saturday, September 17th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington Street 

Enjoy craft beers and celebrate South Jersey during this all-day festival that celebrates all things local! Enjoy local food vendors, local artisans, local craft beers and local musical talent. 

This event is FREE to attend. Varying costs for food, beer, and crafts vendors. 

Boots at the Beach Free Country Music Festival  

September 16 – 18  

Olde New Jersey Avenue, North Wildwood 

The annual ‘Boots at the Beach’ Country Music Festival returns! Presented by the Anglesea Irish Society and 5 Mile Isle Events, this year marks the 6th annual event for the festival, and will feature three full days of country music, vendors, crafts, food and more. Refreshments, food and live country music on two outdoor stages will take place all day long and into the night. 

Admission to the festival is FREE! Friday the event hours are noon to 10 p.m. Saturday from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. 

Ocean City Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow 

Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m.

The History of Sea Isle City Lecture 

Monday, September 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.  

Sea Isle City Library 

Join us for a presentation on the history of Ludlum Island and the dream that came true for Charles K. Landis. 

Michael McHale, the night’s speaker, is a former mayor and Councilman from Sea Isle and is presently a trustee and volunteer at the Sea Isle Historical Museum, located inside the Sea Isle City Library. 

Beachside Science Lecture: Monarchs and Migration 

Wednesday, September 21 at 6 p.m.  

Avalon Community Hall  

All summer there are animals at the Jersey Shore, but where do they go come winter time? Join The Wetlands Institute for a discussion of migrations from the small Monarch butterfly to the gulls on the beach as the seasons change.
