Mosaic Workshop at The Nature Center

Well-known mosaic artist Susan Zipper will be hosting a 2-day mosaic workshop, which will offer a truly unique opportunity for aspiring artists and creative neophytes alike. Cost: $50 members, $65 nonmembers. Those interested are encouraged to search their houses for all of those “findings” that have been collecting around the house for years; things like beads, broken china, buttons, tiles, jewelry, bottlecaps, flat marbles, pebbles, driftwood scraps, and shells. Join other creative people for this very unique and “must-attend” workshop.

Pre-registration is required. Your registration includes a plant stand base, personal instruction and a variety of “findings” as well as grout. For more information call 609-898-8848. This workshop has been scheduled to conclude with the Nature Center’s annual Early Bird Native Plant Sale, also scheduled for April 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Delmo Sports and MudHen Brewing Co. Host Half Marathon Race Series Weekend

Delmo Sports and the MudHen Brewing Co. in Wildwood have teamed up to present the MudHen Half Marathon, 8K & 5K – formerly known as the Wild Half Race Series – taking place along the Wildwoods coastline, Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28.

On the evening of Friday, April 26, the IPA 5K will begin at 7 p.m. The race starts and finishes in front of the MudHen Brewing Co., located at 127 W. Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood. This run course is a combination of closed roads, boardwalk, and bike path! A fantastic after-party awaits finishers of all ages for awards and prizes at the MudHen Brewing Co.

On Saturday, April 27, the 8K race will begin at 9:30 a.m. outside the Wildwoods Convention Center at 4501 Boardwalk. Also on Saturday, children 12 and under are invited to get fit and participate in their first “marathon”. Beginning at noon, the Mini Mudhen Kids’ Race starts and finishes on the boardwalk outside the Wildwoods Convention Center. All children receive a complimentary pier pass to Morey’s Piers and Water Parks.

On Sunday, April 28, the MudHen Half Marathon, 8K & 5K will feature the love of running combined with the rhythm of beach life for one amazing 13.1-mile half marathon along the picturesque sights and sounds of the Wildwoods. The course takes you from stunning views of the coast into the action of the boardwalk, creating one unforgettable event.

Courses will feature live music, well-stocked aid stations and a finish line celebration in front of the Wildwoods Convention Center. The Half Marathon will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by an awards ceremony at Fox Park in Wildwood and an after party at the MudHen Brewing Co. featuring live music, food and craft beer.

Renaissance Faire

Paint your pet at Maverick Art Studio on Saturday, April 27 at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Benefitting Animal Welfare Society of Cape May County. Feis at the Beach

Wildwoods Convention Center. Cummins School of Irish Dance presents Feis at the Beach. Doors open at 9 a.m.; Irish dance competitions are 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The competitions will include over 1,300 dancers of all ages and expertise. Feis will be choreographed to music and prizes will be awarded. A number of vendors will be displaying and selling many Irish products. Free admission!

Hummingbirds 101

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are headed our way. They reached the Gulf Coast states in late February and early March. Is your yard ready for them? Pat Sutton has keenly studied the natural world for over 40 years (as the naturalist at the Cape May Point State Park in the 1970s and 1980s and for 21 years, until 2007, as the naturalist and program director at the Cape May Bird Observatory).
