Do The Shore 8/9 – 8/15

Family time in the summer is the best, but why not add a little competition to get the weekend going? On August 10th come out for the 38th Annual Boys and Girls Surf Fishing Tournament. The tournament will be held at the North End Beach adjacent to the Ocean City/Longport Bridge. Registration begins at 9 am in the Longport Bridge parking lot. The tournament will be held 10 am – noon. There will be ongoing casting and fishing instruction throughout the event. The rain date will be August 17th. However, if fishing is not your preferred hobby, come to Avalon beach on 28th street at 10 am on August 10th to participate in the Sand Sculpture Contest where you can work as a family.

Enjoy beer and crabs? Then you would enjoy the Craft Beer and Crab Festival on August 10th featuring local and regional craft beers to wash down favorite summer picnic foods on the grounds of the beautiful Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May, 11am -7 pm. This is a weekend filled with music and entertainment with lots of performances to choose from. Enjoy the Summer Music Series featuring Parrotbeach on August 10th starting at 7:30pm. The show will take place at Centennial Park in Wildwood. Parrot Heads unite! Close your eyes, relax, and head to Margaritaville as Parrotbeach entertains you with the sounds of Jimmy Buffett. Parrotbeach is billed as the hardest-working full-time Jimmy Buffett cover band on the entertainment circuit. This free show is appropriate for all ages. Bring your own blanket or a chair. Come and enjoy a Concert under the Stars featuring Beatlemania Again! The show will begin at 8 pm at Excursion Park in Sea Isle City. This is a show you do not want to miss! It’s the beginning of the week, and you may be thinking there is nothing going on but the fun never stops at the beach! On August 12th, enjoy the Concert Series featuring Rusted Root at 7:30 pm. The show will take place at Ocean City Music Pier in Ocean City. Rusted Root is a band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, known for their unique fusion of acoustic, rock, world and other styles of music, with a strong percussion section that draws from African, Latin American, and Native American influences. On August 14th, you do not want to miss the Summer Music Series of Rubik’s Cube 3 at Centennial Park in Wildwood beginning at 7:30 pm. The admission is free so come out and enjoy the Pennsylvania-based group as they perform their classic rock hits. Back by popular demand! Make sure to bring a blanket or a chair. If you are staying in Stone Harbor there is still entertainment for you to enjoy. Come out for the Summer Concert Series featuring Jim Bannach of BLT on August 15th beginning at 7:30 pm at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Admission is free so bring your friends and family out for a great night.

Why not end the week with the award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company’s popular Tales of the Victorians as it returns for its twenty-fourth year? This event will take place at The Peter Shields Inn on August 15th beginning at 4 pm. This show is for all ages so make sure to bring your friends and family for a great afternoon. Admission for children 12 and under is free.
