With the arrival of December, so comes a host of holiday-themed, family events and concerts. From basketball tournaments to New Year’s celebrations, here are some of this week’s highlights!

Battle at the Boards Basketball Classic
December 23rd- December 30th beginning at 1:30 pm
Where: Wildwoods Convention Center – 4501 Boardwalk, Wildwood
The 16th Annual Boardwalk Basketball Classic holiday high school tournament will begin with the Battle at the Boards showcase event Dec. 23 at the Wildwoods Convention Center. The Battle at the Boards is scheduled to begin with a contest between two local rivals as Cape May Tech faces Lower Cape May Regional in a boys game at 1:30 pm. At 3:45 pm, Lower Cape May’s girls team will take on Timber Creek.
Tickets for the event are $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizens, children and high school students. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are good for the entire day. Boardwalk Basketball Classic all-tournament passes will not be accepted for the Battle at the Boards on Dec. 23. The Boardwalk Basketball Classic continues Thursday, Dec. 26 through Monday, Dec. 30 at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Boys and girls from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia will compete in what has become the largest single-venue coed high school basketball tournament in the country.

Greater Cape May Elks/Tom Beheler Basketball Tournament
Friday-Sunday December 27th through 29th
Where: Lower Township Recreation Center – 2600 Bayshore Rd, Villas
A Holiday Basketball Tournament for children grades 3 to 8 takes place at Lower Township Recreation Center and the Richard C. Teitelman School in Lower Township, New Jersey on Dec. 27, 28, and 29, 2013. This year we expect a great turnout of teams. The Tournament, which is in honor of Tom Beheler who succumbed to ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease, was initiated by his wife, Charlotte and his best friend, John Herman. Proceeds go to ALS, Hope of Cape May County and Lower Township Recreation Department’s Traveling Basketball Teams. Greater Cape May Elks is proud to be a contributor as a part of their Youth and Community Projects. Cape May Stage’s First Annual Holiday Stocking Raffle
Sunday, December 29th
Where: Robert Shackleton Playhouse – Bank & Lafayette Sts, Cape May
The stocking are hung at Cape May Stage with care. Celebrate the holidays with Cape May Stage’s First Annual Holiday Stocking Raffle. From now until Dec. 29, sixteen beautiful stockings will be on display at either the Robert Shackleton Playhouse, where Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol is playing, or at Congress Hall, with performances of The Santaland Diaries. Local businesses embodied the generous spirit of the holiday season through donations of goods and services to the Stocking Raffle. Each contribution highlights the unique offerings and spirit of donor businesses. Raffle tickets are available at performances of Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol and The Santaland Diaries for $2 each, 3 for $5 or 6 for $10 with the ability to take a chance on all stockings at both locations. Winners will be drawn Dec. 29.

New Year’s Eve in Egypt
Tuesday, December 31st from 5:30 to 7:30 pm

Lower Township New Year’s Eve Celebration
Tuesday, December 31st from 6 to 9 pm
Where: Lower Township Recreation Center – 2600 Bayshore Rd, Villas
The Lower Township Recreation Department will hold a family New Year’s Eve celebration at the Recreation Center, Tues. Dec. 31 from 6 pm to 9 pm The event features music, face painting, carnival games, food and fun for the entire family. New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display
