CAPE MAY – From Little Anthony and The Imperials to Wynonna & The Big Noise, the City of Cape May 2018 Summer Concert Series promises a season of famous hits and powerful voices. All shows will be held at Cape May Convention Hall, 714 Beach Ave. in Cape May, beginning at 8 p.m.
“From early July through Labor Day Weekend, music lovers have the opportunity to enjoy spectacular concerts by legendary performers,” said Clarence “Chuck” Lear, Mayor of the City of Cape May. “The Summer Concert Series is consistently popular with residents and visitors alike. Last year’s series was a virtual sell-out, and we expect the response to this year’s lineup to be just as enthusiastic.”
On Thursday, July 5, Little Anthony and The Imperials kick off the concert series with an inimitable blend of rhythm and blues, soul, and early rock and roll. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees topped the charts with hits such as “Tears on My Pillow,” “Goin’ Out Of My Head,” “Hurt So Bad” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Bop.”
On Wednesday, July 11, Darlene Love brings her unique and soulful voice to the Cape May Convention Hall stage. Love is responsible for some of the biggest hits of the 1960s, including “He’s A Rebel,” “The Boy I’m Gonna Marry,” “Wait ‘Til My Bobby Gets Home,” “He’s Sure the Boy I Love” and the holiday classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).”
On Wednesday, July 18, the city welcomes The Brooklyn Bridge. These Vocal Group Hall of Fame inductees are known for their hit single, “What’s the Worst that Could Happen.” Lead singer Joe Esposito is also responsible for Donna Summer’s smashes, “Heaven Knows” and “Bad Girls,” as well as “Lady Lady Lady,” featured on the soundtracks for both “Flashdance” and the Oscar-nominated “Call Me By Your Name.”
On Wednesday, July 25, country star power comes to Convention Hall with a performance by Wynonna & The Big Noise. The Academy of Country Music’s Top Female Vocalist in 1993, Wynonna has recorded 11 top 10 country hits, including the number one songs, “She Is His Only Need,” “I Saw The Light,” “No One Else On Earth” and “To Be Loved By You.”
On Wednesday, August 1, The Association brings intricate vocal harmonies and familiar melodies to the Jersey Shore. The group received seven Grammy nominations for hits such as “Cherish,” “Windy” and “Never My Love,” and was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
On Wednesday, August 8, The Box Tops take the stage. Formed in 1967, the Box Tops recorded the number one megahit song, “The Letter,” as well as six other Top 40 hits, “Cry Like a Baby,” “Soul Deep,” Neon Rainbow,” “Choo Choo Train,” “Sweet Cream Ladies-Forward March” and “Turn on a Dream.”
On Wednesday, August 15, The Hit Men, Legendary Rock Supergroup, performs timeless hits. The members of this supergroup have played and/or sung on some of the era’s most memorable hits, including, “Oh, What a Night,” “The Loco-motion” and “Peace Train.” The group combines rousing performances of classic hits with backstage stories and multimedia visuals to evoke an unforgettable and nostalgic experience.
On Wednesday, August 22, The Beach Bumz Band performs a free concert on the beach. Guests are invited to bring a beach chair to enjoy the music of Jimmy Buffett, the Beach Boys and other summer favorites.
On Friday, August 31, The Spinners close out the concert series. This legendary group has topped both pop and R&B charts with hits such as “Working My Way Back to You,” “I’ll Be Around,” “They Just Can’t Stop It (Games People Play)” and “Rubberband Man.”
