CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Middle Township PAC is proud to present Linda Gentille and the Jersey Shore Pops in “Christmas with the Pops” on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. This show will feature saxophone sensation Walt Palmer with the well-known orchestra. Walt Palmer has been one of the most popular fixtures with the orchestra since its beginning at the PAC in 2009.
Palmer attended Mastbaum Tech and the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. He studied both the Schillinger System and conventional style, arranging with Clarence Cox. Throughout his career he was the leader/arranger, and occasionally a sideman, in many supper club show groups in addition to jazz and R&B combos.
Palmer mainly traveled the East Coast and Midwest states. He recorded for ABC Paramount and Mercury Records as a leader, writer and arranger on his own single releases, and as a studio musician and arranger on other artists’ recordings. He periodically taught at private music schools in the Philadelphia and New Jersey areas. He has backed many artists, including Wayne Newton, Screamin’ Jay (“I Put a Spell on You”) Hawkins, Little Richard, and local favorites Charlie Gracie and Cozy Morley. He played in the U.S. Army Reserve Band, and the Philadelphia Police and Fire Concert Band.
The Jersey Shore Pops is a big band orchestra with string section, modeled after the orchestras of the Frank Sinatra era which featured a string section along with the big band sounds. The orchestra was founded by entertainer and conductor Linda Gentille in 2009. The orchestra features 25 of the finest New Jersey musicians either born or based in New Jersey. It has become the most popular orchestra at the shore and an attraction for tourists from all over the East Coast for the past seven years.
