Check it Out! Avalon Library to Host Story Book Bash & Open House

AVALON – The Avalon Free Public Library invites the public to join in celebrating reading, learning and summer at the 2nd Annual Open House and Story Book Bash on Saturday, June 24, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will provide adults the opportunity to view the many and varied services the library offers, and children the opportunity to enjoy a full schedule of activities including crafts, story time, character visits and more.

“Reading, like vacation, is a way to explore and enjoy realities other than our own, and the Avalon Library can provide the gateway to your summer vacation – even if you live locally,” said Library Director Erin Brown. “Our Open House is an opportunity for us to share with the community all that the Library offers – books, movies, events for adults and kids, technology classes and so much more.”

The event will feature hands-on demonstrations of library apps that allow patrons to download eBooks, audiobooks and music; read magazines on phones or tablets; learn a language; access high-quality online courses; and more, all free of charge. Short samples of library programs such as a genealogy course, a technology workshop and a musical performance will occur throughout the morning. Additionally, the Avalon History Center will offer a mini-exhibit for visitors to enjoy.

Children are encouraged to arrive dressed as their favorite character. The day is scheduled to be volumes of fun: kids may chat with princesses, have faces painted like their favorite superhero, take home an animal-shaped balloon and more. Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and pick up information on the kids’ events and programs occurring throughout summer. Whether children read 10 pages or 10,000, there are prizes for every summer reader!

The Avalon Library is located at 235 32nd St. Free and convenient parking is provided, and coffee and light refreshments will be served. Find a full schedule of Open House events at avalonfreelibrary.org.
