Celebrate Earth Day at Home

Every year we celebrate Earth Day on April 22 to celebrate the planet’s environment and raise awareness about environmental pollution. Normally we would spend this day organizing beach clean ups or planting trees, but Earth Day looks a little different this year. Even though we are all at home, here are a few ways you can celebrate Earth Day and take action at home.

Clean Up Your Street
Although we can’t organize beach or park clean-ups this year, we can still try and clean up the neighborhood around us. When you take a walk (while practicing social distancing!), take a bag along to pick up any garbage you may see along the way.

Organize Clothes & Home Goods Donations
While you’re at home, take this time to do some spring cleaning and organize donations of things you don’t need. By donating old clothes and home goods instead of throwing them away, the items will be reused by someone else rather than having them take up space in our nation’s landfills. Although many businesses are not taking donations at the moment, there will be a need for donations once they open again.

Bring Reusable Bags When You Grocery Shop
Instead of using plastic bags when you go to the grocery store, bring your own reusable bags to protect the environment and avoid non-renewable resources. Reusable grocery bags are stronger, better alternatives. If you use plastic bags, they will end up in landfills or worse: the ocean.

Every little thing adds up to make our planet a better, healthier place. Happy Earth Day!
