Cape May’s November 2017 Calendar of Events

Now through Nov. 19

Cape May Designer Show House: The 1911 John P. Forsythe House at 1601 Beach Ave. (corner of Brooklyn) is one of the largest of the first generation homes that arose as part of the East Cape May project, which aimed at making Beach Avenue the classiest street in Cape May. Come see how that promise was eventually fulfilled, and tour this magnificent, historic home during the 2017 Cape May Designer Show House, featuring the work of dozens of talented local and regional designers in close to two dozen rooms!

Nov. 3-Nov. 5

Sherlock Holmes Weekend – “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Discarded Woman”: New mystery in 2017! Join Sherlock Holmes and his partner, Dr. Watson for a weekend of mystery and intrigue, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 3-Nov. 5. Get into the spirit of things by donning Victorian attire. Stalk the gaslit streets in search of clues and compete for the $250 grand prize and a variety of other valuable gifts as you attempt to solve the mystery. Full weekend packages are available at $200 per couple or $105 per person and include the welcome reception, performances, tour, luncheon and gift. Weekend overnight packages are also available. The Search for Clues tour on Saturday, Nov. 4 can be purchased separately.

Nov. 4

Search for Clues Tour: Travel from inn to inn in Victorian Cape May while you try to solve a murder mystery. 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. $15 for adults, $7.50 for children (ages 3-12). Tour begins and tickets are available at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth. Part of Sherlock Holmes Weekend.

Fall Arts & Crafts Festival: Dozens of vendors come to Cape May to sell hand-made novelties and crafts including seasonal decorations, gift items and more. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. Cape May Convention Hall, Beach Avenue at Stockton Place.

Nov. 17-Jan. 1, 2018

Cape May’s Holiday Season: Six weeks of special holidays tours and events including Holiday Preview Weekend (Nov. 17-19), 44th Annual Christmas Candlelight House Tours (Dec. 2, 9 and 16), plus Lamplighter Christmas Tours, Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Rides, Emlen Physick Estate Christmas Tours, Holiday Inns Tours, Evening Holiday Lights Trolley Rides, Evening Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Rides, Santa’s Trolley Rides, and more. Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 through Sunday, Jan. 1, 2018.

An Old-Fashioned Christmas Exhibit: An exhibit of holiday traditions through the years complete with model trains, toys and much more! At the Carroll Gallery at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., Cape May, Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 through Sunday, Jan. 1, 2018. The Gallery is open daily (except Thanksgiving and Christmas); hours vary. Free admission.

Nov. 17-19

Holiday Preview Weekend: Get a head start on the Holiday season! Santa and his elves have decked out the Physick Estate with thousands of lights and holiday trimmings. Enjoy a wide variety of holiday tours and food and wine events to get you into the Christmas spirit. Visit the Estate on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at 7 p.m. as Santa arrives to flip the switch for the festive Tree-Lighting Ceremony. That evening the Estate will be open for free, self-guided tours. For kids, there are Santa’s Trolley Rides and a chance to visit with old St. Nick himself. Grown-ups will enjoy holiday ghost tales during Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Rides. Friday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Nov. 19.

Nov. 17

Mad Batter Wine Dinner: Savor flavors and colors of autumn during this five-course meal inspired by autumn’s flavors, paired with wines presented at The Mad Batter Restaurant. Limited to 60. $75 per person (tax and gratuity included). Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Part of Cape May’s Holiday Preview Weekend.

Nov. 18

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony: Come to the grounds of the Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., for the Christmas tree lighting with special guests Santa Claus and Dr. Physick. Refreshments will be served, and guests may enjoy a free self-guided tour of the Physick Estate from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Santa arrives at 7 p.m. to flip the switch and light the thousands of bulbs. Saturday, Nov. 18.

Nov. 24 and 25

Holiday Crafts Fair: A must visit for those on your holiday gift lists. Shop for unique hand-made gifts and seasonal decorations. Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cape May Convention Hall, Beach Avenue at Stockton. Admission is $2.

ONGOING TOURS AND EVENTS

The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) offers admission to the Emlen Physick Estate, the Cape May Lighthouse and the World War II Lookout Tower, as well as trolley, walking, house, bicycle and boat tours throughout the year. Dates and times vary seasonally; call for availability.
