Cape May Stage Announces 2017 Season

CAPE MAY – The 2017 season for Cape May Stage will feature five main stage plays all revolving around “Passion,” says Roy Steinberg, producing artistic director. “This season includes a musical, comedies, romance and dramatic offerings.”

The season opens May 24 with a musical play, “Billy Bishop Goes To War” by John Gray with Eric Peterson, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of World War I. This story of heroism takes the viewer up into the skies, back down into the trenches and inside the human spirit. The show runs through June 23. Opening June 28 and running through Aug. 4 is “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife” by Charles Busch. This comedic tale tells the story of a New York doctor’s wife, obsessed with pursuing culture, who is catapulted into a mid-life crisis when a mysterious woman enters the picture and ends up destroying everything in her wake. Running Aug. 9 through Sept. 22 is the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedic drama “The Gin Game,” where the famous card game becomes a metaphor for life.

The fall season brings “Outside Mullingar” by John Patrick Shanley, the author of “Doubt,” opening Sept. 27 and running through Nov. 10. In the same mood as Shanley’s award-winning film “Moonstruck,” this Irish comedy is a funny, unconventional love story with a magical twist. The season wraps up with “The Ultimate Christmas Show (abridged)” on Nov. 15 and ends on Dec. 30. This hilariously funny play tells the story of three madcap actors, doing everything from Cirque du Soleil to English pantomime as part of a Church Pageant that goes horribly wrong.

In addition to the main stage, PNC Arts Alive presents the 2017 Broadway series. PNC Arts Alive is a multi-year, multi-million dollar grant initiative of the PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. Kicking off the Broadway series on July 10 will be American Idol contestantant and Tony-nominee Constantine Maroulis. July 17 will be the award-winning Charles Busch performing his renowned drag show. July 24 brings the legendary Jim Dale in “Just Jim Dale,” and returning to Cape May Stage is Jill Eikenberry with Michael Tucker on July 31. Finishing the Broadways Series will be Rita Gardner performing her show “Much More…A Musical Tribute to the Songs of Jones and Schmidt” on Aug. 14.
