This week’s featured local mixologist can be found within the laid back atmosphere of The Deck at Holly Beach, serving up cold ones behind the refinished Irish-pub-style bar on the first floor.
Kelly Kennedy is celebrating her first summer as a bartender at The Deck, although she made the move from Southwest Philadelphia to North Wildwood in 2009. Like many Philadelphians, Kelly spent her childhood summers down the shore, and those memories brought her back to the place she now calls home.
After a friend started Kelly in a beer and wine establishment, Kelly grew to love bartending. When she became a full-time resident of the five-mile island, she began what she calls “tourism bartending,” something she now considers a career. Kelly being a people person, her favorite part of the job is the customers. Working in a resort town, Kelly is constantly meeting new people and offering advice on fun things to do in the Wildwoods. “It’s a new batch of visitors every week, so every day’s a different day!” she explains.
When Kelly’s not behind bar, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, grilling and relaxing by the pool. Her recommended drink of choice is the Green Tea Shot, although she can’t resist a good shot of Fireball!
