Bartender of the Week: Harpoon Henry’s

This week’s quest for our next outstanding mixologist found us on North Cape May’s bayfront, at the main bar of our County’s own tropical getaway. With two full service bars, serving over 150 frozen drinks, and live nightly entertainment, Harpoon Henry’s is a favorite spot for locals to meet. It’s also home to a lively, friendly staff that is always happy to greet regulars and get to know new patrons. Bartender Margaret has been a member of the Harpoon Henry’s staff for 8 years now, and she comes highly recommended by owner Teresa Henry and patrons alike. We sat down and got to know what makes this bartender of the week one of the best. Margaret has been a bartender for a total of 12 years, but Harpoon Henry’s has been her mainstay. Her favorite part about the gig? “The customers,” states Margaret. Born and raised in North Cape May, Margaret has strong local ties. When she is off the clock, she spends most of her time taking care of grand kids and hanging out with them poolside.

If asked for her personal cocktail recommendation, Margaret goes with a Rum Runner on the rocks. She also suggests that those who haven’t sampled the brand new signature “Localarita” give it a try. The Localarita is made with an organic, gluten-free margarita mix base which contains only lime juice and agave. Without any of the sugary add-ins that characterize most margarita mixes, the Localarita is composed of only the purest natural flavors and tequila for a super smooth finish. Say hello to Margaret, self-described as full of spunk and “very truthful”, at Harpoon’s Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Happy Hour deals include $2 Miller drafts, $5 house wine, $6 U-Peel-Um Shrimp, $7 steamers, and $3 onion rings by the half-foot.
