Aviation Museum’s ‘Runway 5K’ Cleared for Take Off

VILLAS – Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum (NASW), located at the Cape May Airport, will host the 2nd annual “Runway 5K & 1 Mile Fun Walk” June 14, 2014 at 9 a.m. The museum is excited to bring this event back to Cape May County and historic Hangar #1.

With the cooperation of the Delaware River & Bay Authority (operators of the Cape May Airport), the airport will temporarily close to air traffic allowing runners and walkers this unique opportunity to compete on the runways! Early registration is highly recommended. Race day registration opens at 7am located at the entrance to the Aviation Museum. Air traffic and runways will be shut down between 8am-11am. No back packs will be permitted. New and improved amenities for 2014 include: Beer tastings from Cape May Brewing Company, music, expanded award/age categories, high quality tech shirts (early bird registrants only, prior to May 30th) and precisely measured course. Cape May Airport was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945.
