Aviation Museum’s Runway 5K Cleared for Take Off

Get out your best racing shoes and start stretching, because one of the most unique running experiences in Cape May County is returning to the Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum: the Annual Runway 5K/10K/1-Mile Fun Walk!  With the cooperation of the Delaware River & Bay Authority, the Cape May Airport will be temporarily closed to air traffic, allowing runners and walkers the opportunity to compete on the open runway and finish inside the museum’s historic Hangar #1.

The NASW Aviation Museum is excited to bring this event back for the fifth year, and proceeds will benefit restoration efforts of Hangar #1.  Race day is May 18 and same-day registration begins at 7 a.m.  Participants will also receive a high-quality 5K/10K shirt while supplies last; so, early registration is highly recommended!  To have the runway safely cleared by

10:15 a.m., the race is set to start promptly at 9 a.m. with a 75-minute time limit for all distances. Electronic timing and officiation will be provided by DelMoPRO.  After the race, participants can enjoy live music and post-race refreshments – including a free craft beer for those 21 and older (ID required).

Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is open daily (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and located inside historic Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport, New Jersey.

The site was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945. For more information, visit www.usnasw.org or call 609-886-8787.
