Avalon to Kick off Spring with Festival, Yard Sale and More

AVALON—The Borough of Avalon will hold its annual Spring Kick Off weekend Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13. The weekend includes the Avalon Chamber of Commerce’s Wine and Spirits Festival, and many popular Borough events including the annual Avalon Garden Club Borough-Wide Yard Sale, community paper shredding day, bike auction and the Avalon Fire Department’s flower and hoagie sales.

The weekend begins on Friday, May 12 with the Wine and Spirits Festival to be held at Avalon Community Hall at 30th Street and the beach. Starting at 6:30 p.m., more than 200 high end wine, spirits and hors d’oeuvres will be served along with live music and a silent auction. Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the door. Avalon continues the fun on Saturday, May 13 with the Avalon Garden Club’s annual Borough Wide Yard Sale to be held throughout the Borough of Avalon. The sale begins at 9 a.m. and maps of all yard sale locations will be available at Avalon Community Hall starting at 8 a.m.

The Avalon Volunteer Fire Department will host both a flower and hoagie sale at the firehouse starting at 8 a.m. Italian hoagies will be available for sale for $8, and many different types of flowers and plants will be on sale. All proceeds benefit the fire department.

Avalon property owners can participate in the annual paper shredding event to be held from 9 a.m. until noon at the Avalon Department of Public Works Building at 14th Street and Dune Drive. Any unwanted documents will be destroyed on site and removed for recycling purposes.

The Avalon Police Department will hold its annual bicycle sale and surplus item auction at 12 noon, also at the Avalon Department of Public Works. Various bicycles and other items that were found to be abandoned and unclaimed will be for sale to the highest bidder. Proceeds from the auction support various public safety efforts in the Borough.

Saturday concludes with the Avalon Department of Recreation’s monthly Big Band Dance at Avalon Community Hall at 7 p.m. The popular “Star Band” will perform live; tickets are $8 in advance or at the door. For more information, visit www.avalonboro.net.
