AVALON — The Avalon Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Seafood Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 30th Street and the beach.
More than 20 vendors will be serving up some of the area’s best seafood at the popular event, which also will feature live music, children’s activities, fall and seafood themed crafts and activities, and shopping. And be sure to stop by the Sound Advice Lounge for beer and wine, along with live streaming of the weekend’s football games.
Among Saturday’s highlights will be the 3rd annual Shucking Showdown, scheduled for 2:30 p.m., featuring defending two-time champion, Chef Warren Wade. The friendly competition among area chefs determines who can shuck the most clams in the allotted time. Saturday’s live entertainment will be provided by Sean Loosh, Ashley Curcio and Tom Curtis, Jr.
Don’t miss the famous Chowder Championship, scheduled for Sunday at noon inside at Avalon Community Hall. Local restaurants enter their chowder in this contest. For a fee, festival visitors will blind-taste the chowder and vote for their favorite. Last year’s champion was The Golden Inn.
The live entertainment lineup for Sunday includes Don Shough and Michael Thompson Duo. New to the festival this year will be the Harvest Art Bar on Sunday at 11 a.m. Join artist Julia Mills as you create a masterpiece while sipping on a glass of wine. NFL football will be streaming all day from the Sound Advice Lounge as the Eagles take on the Saints at 1 p.m.
The rain dates for the Avalon Seafood Festival are Oct. 17 and 18.
