The Avalon Performing Arts Council (APAC) is hosting its 31st Annual Art Show and Sale June 22 and 23 at the Avalon Elementary School by the library. A silent art auction, in its fourth year, will be held both days. Admission is free.
The Art Show is APAC’s premier event, featuring over 50 artists from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and New York. Only the artists’ original work will be exhibited and sold. Artists’ works will be judged in several categories: oil, acrylic, watercolor, works on paper/mixed media, sculpture and photography. Opening Night Preview Reception is Friday, June 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. Meet the artists and view the unveiling of the winning work of art for the 2018 commemorative T-shirt and poster. Light food and beverages will be provided. The art show continues Saturday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and also features an “Emerging Artist” category for high school students, juried separately. Judging and awards will be announced by 12 p.m. Nick Pattantyus of Cape May Court House was the 2017 “Best in Show” award winner for his work “Ides of March” in photography. Best in Show carries a cash award of $500, first place $200, second place $150, and third place $100. The “Best in Show” in the “Emerging Artists” category carries a cash award of $100, and will be announced during the show. Admission is free. Donations are accepted. Next door, the Avalon Free Public Library is hosting its annual Open House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check it out!
