OCEAN CITY – The Humane Society of Ocean City, located at 1 Shelter Rd., Ocean City, will host its 9th Annual “The Fast and the Furriest 5K Turkey Trot” on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 24, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. at 18th St. and Haven Ave. in Ocean City. This event is open to the public, and all runners and walkers are welcome. A 1 Mile Kids “Fun Run” will be held at the conclusion of the 5K run/walk. This event is rain or shine.
Race Director Louise Nunan has been organizing this event for the last eight years, and has raised over $50,000 for the Humane Society of Ocean City. “We are thrilled that Louise will once again organize this great race to benefit the homeless dogs and cats at the Humane Society of Ocean City. Proceeds will be directed to the ‘Bud Fund’ which provides veterinary care for HSOC animals with significant or life threatening veterinary needs,” states Bill Hollingsworth, Executive Director. “We believe every animal deserves a second chance, and that’s exactly what the ‘Bud Fund’ provides. We can’t thank Louise enough for the time and effort she puts into making this a great event each year, and her willingness to help the animals in our care.”
Thousands of runners from across the country have participated in the last eight races. Due to construction at the Music Pier and surrounding boardwalk area, the race will begin at 18th St. and Haven Ave., outside of the Senior Center. It will proceed south along the bike path to the turn-around near 33rd St. Pets are not allowed to participate in this event for safety reasons.
Pre-registration is encouraged. Race applications are available at the Humane Society of Ocean City, or online at www.active.com or runsignup.com/Race/NJ/OceanCity/TheFastandthefurriest5KTurkeyTrot.
