Sea Isle City’s National Night Out Will Feature Family Activities

On Tuesday, August 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., the Sea Isle City Police Department will host a National Night Out celebration at the Excursion Park Band Shell, located on JFK Boulevard at the Promenade. As is the case in towns and cities throughout the country, the focus of Sea Isle City’s National Night Out is to increase awareness for important police programs, such as drug prevention, avoiding juvenile alcohol use, and other anti-crime efforts.

Sea Isle’s National Night Out will feature complementary snacks and other give-aways, face painters, an inflatable obstacle course, games, balloon artists, live music and other family fun. There will also be a dunk tank, which will raise funds for Mayor Desiderio’s 2015 Holiday Toy and Food Drive.

The event will also feature a series of interactive booths, manned by representatives from local first responder organizations, including Sea Isle City’s Fire Department, Ambulance Corps and Beach Patrol, as well as Cape May County’s Sheriff’s Office, Prosecutor’s Office and S.W.A.T. Team. At the S.I.C. Police Department booth, officers will allow participants to try-on special goggles that show how severely alcohol impairs basic functions. Additionally, representatives from the United States Secret Service will offer free Safety I.D. kits for children, which will include photographs and fingerprints for parents to keep on file.

Afterwards, families can enjoy a free showing of the hit movie Planes: Fire and Rescue, which will begin at dusk at Excursion Park.

According to Sea Isle City Police Captain Thomas McQuillen, organizer of the event, this year’s National Night Out in Sea Isle City will offer something for every member of the family.

“The purpose of National Night Out is to build strong partnerships between the police and the surrounding community and to promote crime awareness programs such as Neighborhood Community Watch groups,” said McQuillen. “National Night Out gives the Police and the Community we serve the opportunity to meet and build the relationships that make Sea Isle such a great place. This is an event that all first responders look forward to each year, and we encourage residents and visitors to come out and enjoy the fun on August 4.”
