Spring is finally here, and what better way to start Mother’s Day weekend in Avalon than at the Avalon Wine & Spirits Festival on Friday, May 8? The event, hosted by the Avalon Chamber of Commerce and Fred’s Avalon Liquor Store, will feature more than 200 wines and spirits. Guests are invited to sample some of the world’s finest wines, flavored vodkas, and popular whiskeys, scotch and bourbon, while browsing great silent-auction items. The festival is scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Avalon Community Hall.
Community Hall transforms into a rustic vineyard complete with candles, rich colors, burlap and flowers, making guests feel like they are in wine country. Popular local musicians Sean Loosh and Brett Haenn will serenade guests as they sample the wine and spirits.
Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by the island’s finest restaurants. There also will be an extensive silent auction featuring more than 30 items and packages from local businesses, such as golfing foursomes, home décor, fashions and accessories, to name just a few.
“The Wine Festival is the best way to kick off a fun spring weekend in Avalon,” says Chamber President John O’Dea. “Fred’s Avalon Liquor Store does a great job recruiting high-end and popular wines and spirits, and festival-goers will definitely enjoy the food, music and auction to go along with the tasting.”
Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. They are available for purchase online by visiting www.visitavalonnj.com.
