Museum Brings Back Big Band Concert and Dance Sept. 21

CAPE MAY AIRPORT — Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum has confirmed the return of a USO Style Big Band Concert and Dance, Sept. 21 from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. at Historic Hangar #1. The night will feature live music by the 14 piece Big Band, Walt Wagner and the Serenaders as well as dance instruction by Tom Cupp.

According to museum Office Manager and Dance Coordinator Jenna Lyle; “We have received dozens of phone calls over this past year asking when the dance would be returning, so there is a strong demand for this type of activity. The addition of the 14 piece Walt Wagner and the Serenaders Big Band is extremely exciting! Advanced ticket sales have been strong.”

The last time the Aviation Museum hosted the USO Style Dance was in 2009. This year, funding support from the Cape May County Arts Regrant program has helped NASW bring the dance back. In addition to the live music, guests will enjoy dance instruction on a real wooden dance floor in a setting unlike any other, Historic Hangar #1 which was built in 1943. There will also be plenty of food and a professional photographer. The evening is designed to serve as a tribute to the pride and patriotism of the 1940’s while honoring veterans who served our great nation. Group rates and table reservations are available. Tickets are required, advanced bookings are encouraged. Tickets can be purchased at the museum office, online (usnasw.org) or by phone (609-886-8787).

Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located in Historic Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport, New Jersey. Cape May Airport was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945.
