AVALON — The Borough of Avalon will be celebrating our nation’s 30th annual National Night Out celebration on Aug. 6, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Avalon’s “National Night Out” will be held in the parking lot adjacent to the north side of Avalon Community Hall at 30th Street and the beach in Avalon. The event is rain or shine, and will end with Avalon’s free Big Beach Movie at 8:45pm with “Rise of the Guardians”.
“Avalon truly appreciates our residents and visitors who are partners in our efforts to make Avalon a safe community”, said Avalon Police Chief William McCormick. “National Night Out provides us with another opportunity to talk face to face with the public while providing families many fun, free activities following a day at the beach”.
National Night Out in Avalon is presented by the Avalon Police Department and the Avalon Department of Recreation with generous support from the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department, Avalon Rescue Squad, and Avalon Department of Public Works. Many free activities and events will be offered to children and adults with participation from Avalon businesses and community organizations.
All of the public safety departments in Avalon will be bringing their various rescue vehicles to National Night Out. Police vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, and public safety equipment will be on display. The Avalon Department of Public Works is placing sand in the parking lot where an Avalon Beach Patrol boat will be stationed for fun photo opportunities.
There will be plenty of activities and prizes available during the celebration. A DJ will provide live music on site while children enjoy many fun games including a challenging miniature golf game, a bowling alley, a Whiffle home run derby, face painters, balloon artists, ice cream, hot dogs, and temporary tattoos. Educational materials will also be handed out by Avalon’s civic and community organizations.
