Events this Week: October 2 – 9, 2024

Happy October! This month brings dozens of Halloween events to the Cape; check them out with our separate “Halloween events” list. This week brings a series of Ted Talks to Cape May, a famous vintage drag race on the sand, and more as festival season chugs along.

Wildwood – The Race of Gentlemen

Wildwoods beach between Morey’s Piers   

This vintage drag race on the beach features cars from before 1934 fully restored and upgraded. Feel the rumble of the engines and the excitement in the air as participants push their classic machines to the limit on the sandy shores of the Wildwood beach. Upper Township Applefest

Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

John Wesley Gandy Farmstead, 26 Tyler Road, Upper Township

Applefest returns for its 26th year to this historical farmstand museum. Come see demonstrations by traditional craft artisans, enjoy live music by Linda & Ollie, stroll the farmstead, and try lots of great refreshments like apple cider, apple tarts, and warm apple shortcake. There is also an apple pie baking contest – have your pies to the judging stand by 1 p.m. No admission – free parking!

Author Talk: The Secret of Seven Mile Island

Author & illustrator Dan Thompson will share insights and details about his debut historical fiction novella, The Secret of Seven Mile Island, released in May 2024 by The Paper House Publishing. Inspired in part by cherished times spent at his parents’ home in Avalon since the 1980s, Dan will discuss why Seven Mile Island was the perfect setting for this story to unfold.
