The Trail of Two Cities 5-kilometer run/walk will be held for the 24th time on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019. The popular 5K (3.1-mile) race offers spectacular views over the length of a point-to-point course from Ocean City to Somers Point. The route travels the length of the Route 52 causeway in the lanes usually reserved for cars.
Registration is open and long-sleeved race T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 400 to sign up. The pre-registration fee is $25, and participants can sign up online until 10 p.m. Oct. 30 at www.ocnj.us/race-events<http://www.ocnj.us/race-events>.
Race-day registration runs at 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at the Ocean City Transportation Center (10th Street and Haven Avenue in Ocean City). The race starts there at 8 a.m. and finishes at Kennedy Park in Somers Point.
Buses will be available at the finish line in Somers Point to transport runners to the start in Ocean City before the race from 6:45 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Buses also will be available transport runners back to Ocean City from Somers Point after the race. The awards ceremonies will be held at JFK Park after all participants have completed the course.
Awards will go to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as to the top three male and female runners in the following age groups: 8-and-under, 9-11,12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-and-over.
Packet pick-up will be available 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at the Ocean City Aquatic and Fitness Center (1735 Simpson Avenue) and at the Transportation Center until 7:45 a.m. on race morning.
No pets, bikes, skateboards or roller blades are permitted. Event is held rain or shine. Course is police-controlled, and the causeway will be closed to inbound traffic that morning. For more information, call 609-399-6111, ext. 9317.
‘Little Shop of Horrors’ on Friday and Saturday
On Nov. 1 and 2, the Ocean City Theatre Company’s Junior Company will perform two shows of a Broadway and Hollywood musical that has devoured the hearts of theater-goers for more than 30 years. “Little Shop of Horrors” features 25 students from area schools in grades 7 to 12. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier (Moorlyn Terrace and Boardwalk). With an exciting mix of R&B, gospel, rock and doo-wop, “Little Shop of Horrors” tells the story of meek floral assistant Seymour Krelbourn and a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” after his coworker crush. Set in the backdrop of downtown skid row, Seymour is promised fame and prosperity by his carnivorous companion, provided he keeps Audrey II well-fed with human blood – by any means necessary. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty And The Beast” and “Aladdin”) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the longest-running off-Broadway shows.
OCTC’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors” features students from area schools including Ocean City High School, Holy Spirit High School, Egg Harbor Township High School, Alder Avenue Middle School, Assumption Regional School, Middle Township High School, Upper Township Middle School, Middle Township Middle School, Ocean City Intermediate School and Atlantic County Institute of Technology. Leading the talented cast of student performers is Erik Wagner (Seymour), Ruby Doran (Audrey), Logan Brown (Orin), Aidan Brandt (Mushnik), Mia Watson (Audrey II) with the “Ronnettes” being played by Julia Wilson, Emily Wynn, Maria Stathakopoulos, and James Craver.
