“Summerland” is another name for the afterlife, where there is no more pain or suffering. “It is my belief that the spirit of man is eternal, and free to communicate with the living,” claimed photographer William Mumler. He also claimed he could take pictures that captured both the living and the dead. In 1869, he had to prove his claim before the NYC Court of Special Sessions. The award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company presents the NJ premiere of Arlitia Jones’s “Summerland:” only the third production ever of this provocative historical-fiction-mystery.
William H. Mumler is portrayed by Kyle Walton, Detective Tooker is portrayed by Jared Mason Murray, and Katherine Mumler is portrayed by Elisabeth Ness. Directed by Tom Byrn.

Cape May Stage has unleashed a howlingly funny and touching tale that takes the term “animal lover” to a whole other level. Sylvia gives audiences a clever paradox — a classic love triangle of two females and a man with their divided loyalties and passions coupled with a not so classic love triangle of a man, his wife and his newly adopted dog. Or is it a man, his wife and his new fascination? While delighting audiences, this comedy explores desire and disappointment, refuge and redemption, wit and a good walk in the park.
There will be a Pay-What-You-Wish Performance on Sunday, July 14 and a Cast & Crew Talk-Back on Friday, July 19.
