Looking for a day away from sunshine and sandy beaches? Or perhaps a night out with friends or a significant other? Maybe you’re looking for something to do on a gray day at the shore? We’ve got the perfect answer: experience Cape May County’s local hops, grapes, and spirits! The Jersey Cape’s local breweries, wineries, and distilleries each have their own unique flare, making for a one-of-a-kind experience at each. Tour the facilities and talk to the experts to learn how beer, wine, and spirits are made. Send your palate on a journey with tastings, and bring your favorite flavor home in a growler or bottle!
Slack Tide Brewing Company was founded in 2015 by Jason and Tadhg Campbell, two brothers raised in Cape May County. Their philosophy is simple: create a diverse and high-quality line of beers made with all natural ingredients sourced locally whenever possible, and make Slack Tide a destination where locals feel at home and visitors look forward to returning. A “slack tide” is the point before any turn of the tide where the water is completely unstressed; this is how Jason and Tadhg want all who step foot into Slack Tide to feel.
From classic beers to unique seasonal flavors, Slack Tide has something for everyone. There are always at least eight beers on tap, with a constant rotation to please everyone’s palate and keep them coming back for more. Slack Tide’s flagship beers include: 5 Fathom, Slack Tide’s interpretation of a classic American pale ale with a balanced hop profile; Angry Osprey, an American IPA highlighted by pine and citrus notes; Bell Buoy, Slack Tide’s award-winning Belgian Blonde/Golden Ale with a complex, slightly sweet flavor and dry finish; Monkey Face, an American Stout with a roasted coffee flavor and an underlying creaminess; and Tipsy Dipsy, an American double IPA loaded with Citra hops. Some seasonal beers you might find on tap are Morning Bite, an Imperial Breakfast Stout with hints of chocolate, maple, and coffee, or Sandspike, a highly crushable summertime IPA with a light malt backbone and big hop nose.
Although you can find Slack Tide’s beers at many local restaurants and liquor stores, plus multiple beer festivals throughout the county, Jason and Tadhg invite you into their small, family-owned craft brewery to sit back, relax and drink a cold one in Slack Tide’s cozy atmosphere. While you’re there, ask about the Slacker Mug Club to tap into great deals, awesome beer, and warm camaraderie. Additionally, aside from tours and tastings, Slack Tide hosts special events throughout the year that you won’t want to miss!
