Murder! Mayhem! Madcap fun! Meet the Brewsters! East Lynne Theater Company presents “Arsenic and Old Lace” from July 25 through Sept. 1, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, 500 Hughes St.
The Brewster sisters live in Brooklyn offering rooms to rent, while populating their cellar with the remains of “acceptable” lodgers. The nephew who lives with them thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, another nephew is running from the law and the third is a theater critic.
Written by Joseph Kesselring, it was first produced on Broadway in 1941 by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, running for 1,444 performances. In London, it became the longest running American play at that time. The 1944 film is a classic.
Gayle Stahlhuth is directing and Robert LeMaire is the assistant director. Both are also in the show. Others in the cast who have previously worked for ELTC are Suzanne Dawson, Morgan J. Nichols, Thomas Raniszewski and Scott Harrison, who is also in “On the Sunny Side of the Street.” Those new to ELTC are Paul Battiato, Jennifer Flynn, Bob Reader, Jeff Sharkey and Kegan Witzki.
The opening night after-show party on July 25 is at Aleathea’s at The Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean St. The after-show Q&A is on Aug. 3.
