Comedy Continues at Cape May Stage with ‘Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End’

CAPE MAY – Currently still running through June 22 at Cape May Stage is “Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End” by Allison Engel and Margaret Engel. The one-woman comedy starring Kate McCauley Hathaway is filled with light-hearted humor and nuggets of wisdom that gives insight into the life and family of the beloved 1960s columnist.

Directing “Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End” is director, playwright, actor and Cape May Stage veteran Marlena Lustik. Lustik says, “‘Erma Bombeck’ is as relevant and funny now as she ever was. Her side-splitting humor relates to family life today as vividly as it did when she first cast her comedienne’s eye on the plight of the stay-at-home mom.”

Erma Bombeck’s wit stood the test of time and reminds us that the foibles of family life will always make us laugh. The show runs Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. There is a Pay-What-You-Wish Performance on June 10 and all Saturday Matinees are only $25. For ticket information, visit capemaystage.org or call the box office at (609) 770-8311.

Next up is “Chapter Two” by Neil Simon, opening on June 27 and running through Aug. 3. “Chapter Two” tells the story of successful writer George Schneider, who is mourning the recent death of his beloved wife when he meets a bright, vivacious actress. George is eager to rush into another marriage following a whirlwind courtship. But the memories of his wife threaten to ruin his second chance for happiness. This witty romance deals not only with love and grief, but what it means to have a fresh start and a new lease on life. Running Tuesday through Sunday at 8 p.m., this comedy will start your summer off with a smile, a kiss and a laugh.
