CAPE MAY – The City of Cape May is thrilled to welcome Broadway star Hugh Panaro and the Cape May Pops on Monday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. for their Summer Concert Series performance at Cape May Convention Hall. The audience members will not only get to experience a performance by Panaro, but they will also get to enjoy the talents of the Cape May Pops. This performance will be another entertaining show in the Cape May Summer Concert Series, one that should not be missed!
A Philadelphia native, Panaro studied music at Temple University before moving to New York to pursue his acting dreams. He is critically lauded and adored by fans, demonstrating versatility, charisma and tremendous vocal talent both on and off Broadway. It has been written that Panaro’s “genuine charm and humility, matched with a gorgeous smile, have made him a true fan favorite at many stage doors.” Highlights of his career include playing the original role of Marius Pontmercy in the first national touring production of “Les Miserables” as well as the Phantom in 1999’s “The Phantom of the Opera;” starring as Anthony Hope in the Kennedy Center’s 2002 production of “Sweeney Todd;” and being a part of the 25th anniversary performance of “The Phantom of the Opera” at Broadway’s Majestic Theatre.
He will be joined by the Cape May Pops, an orchestra formed in 2015 that has played at several events throughout the year in Cape May. The professional musicians who make up the Cape May Pops also play for several other musical groups and orchestras including the Philly Pops. Audience members can look forward to hearing music from the piano, bass, drums, synthesizer, trumpets, French horn, trombone and woodwind doublers.
