When we set out to find this week’s featured local mixologist, we headed to paradise at Harpoon Henry’s and found a pleasant surprise – not just one, but TWO bartenders of the week!
Originally from Berlin, N.J., sisters Kat and Kelly now reside in Wildwood. The two have been working together in Cape May County for over 25 years, previously owning two Dairy Queens in the area. Although they sold both Dairy Queens last year, the two are inseparable. They still wanted to work together, so they decided to trace back to their bartending roots from when they attended bartending school 20 years ago. “When we sold the business, we figured bartending was just like serving ice cream – but with alcohol!” they both shared.
For Kat and Kelly, bartending at Harpoon Henry’s is a summer gig. Kat is a local realtor year-round, and Kelly’s husband owns an advertising business in Key West, Fla. Kat shared that her favorite part about working at Harpoon Henry’s during the summer is the customers, the atmosphere, the local feel and the laid back mood of owners Ed and Teresa. “Whether you’re a worker or a patron, everyone’s family here,” she shared. Kelly also loves the atmosphere, telling us that Harpoon Henry’s is the closest thing to Key West you’ll find here in Cape May County, thanks to the beachfront views, tiki torches, island music and nightly sunset conch blowing celebrations.
When the two aren’t serving up drinks, they like to hang out on the other side of the bar sipping on their Harpoon Henry’s favorites. Kat likes to order whatever Harpoon Henry’s drink special of the week is – it’s always changing, always fruity and always fun! Kelly prefers margaritas. “I’m a Parrothead!” she said. Family means a lot to the sisters, so they also like to spend time with family members on their time off.
