Gracious, yet casual, dining returns to the Carriage House on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May with an a la carte menu, which includes salads and signature sandwiches, as well as homemade soups and quiche. Also on the menu is the Classic Tea Luncheon, a Cape May favorite, as well as Afternoon Tea. Enjoy a quiet break from the beach or vacation activities in the patio tent overlooking the gardens and gorgeous grounds of the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate and relax over a memorable lunch. Everything is available for take-out, and there is also a “grab & go” case with sandwiches, muffins, drinks, and more.

Our history…
Located on the grounds of the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, The Carriage House is a historic building in its own right. Built in 1876, the dining tables in the Carriage House Cafe & Tearoom are intimately arranged in the original stalls that were home to the Estate’s carriage horses. The tack cases now display delightful gifts offered in the adjacent Carriage House Museum Shop. The Carroll Gallery, home to changing exhibits, once housed the Estate’s carriages. You can also dine outside on the brick patio beneath the gaily-striped tent overlooking the Estate’s remembrance and herb gardens.

The Carriage House Café & Tearoom is also a perfect place for special parties, from showers to wedding receptions, birthday parties, reunions or any event that deserves a special place. All areas of The Carriage House are wheelchair accessible. The first floor of the Physick House Museum is also accessible.

The Carriage House Café & Tearoom is operated by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC), the non-profit organization which has restored and opened to the public three major historic sites: the Emlen Physick Estate, the Cape May Lighthouse and the World War II Lookout Tower.
