“Mama Mia!” The Musical Comes to Wildwood Catholic High School

“Mama Mia!” the musical, which dominated Broadway for 20+ years and toured the country afterward, will appear at Wildwood Catholic High School as this year’s tour de force musical in November. This is the first year the production is open to high school production. Directed by Lisa DiBruno, the show will be interactive. The audience can participate in the singing during the play. She is assisted in choreography by Jessica Donahue. Set design and scenery are provided by Brian Stuart, Joe Viscomi and art teacher, Mary Walsh.

One-third of the student body is participating with a four-piece live band directed by Andrew Hink. Leads in the play are Maecy Bishoff as Donna, Aidan Bradley as Sam, Grace Stuart as Sophie and Elijah DiAntonio as Sky. The musical takes place on a Mediterranean island. It’s a romantic comedy contrasting the dreams and aspirations of a ‘70s girl and a ‘90s girl through the storytelling magic of Abba. The tale is about good winning out. Donna, Sophie’s mother, in love with Sam, has an affair with him. He goes home to break up with his fiancé and returns too late for Donna, who rejects him. She has, to balm her sorrows, two other affairs, resulting in a daughter. She remains chaste for 20 years. The daughter, about to marry, invites the three men to her wedding without telling her mother.

The play runs Nov. 16, 17 and 21 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 18 with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 and $15, sold online and at the door prior to show. The musical is at Wildwood Catholic High School, 1500 Central Ave., North Wildwood.
