6 Safety Tips for a Spooktacular Halloween Night

Halloween is a fun-filled night for both children and parents, but sometimes it can pose a danger to trick-or-treaters. Before trick-or-treating on Monday night, be sure to review these tips for a fun, safe and spooktacular night!

1. Don’t let your children trick or treat alone. Make sure they walk with a trusted adult or in a group if they are old enough to walk without an adult. Remind them to never accept rides from strangers.

2. Make sure your children wear well-fitting masks, short costumes and comfortable shoes. This will avoid trips and falls.

3. Make sure swords, knives and other costume accessories are short, soft and flexible to avoid injury to other trick-or-treaters.

4. You and your children should wear bright colors or fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.

5. Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible. If you have to walk in the street, stay on the far edge of the road facing traffic. Look both ways before crossing the street and use established crosswalks wherever possible.

6. Before letting your children eat their treats, examine them for choking hazards, tampering and non-factory-wrapping.
