Cape May: What to Do in the Winter at the Jersey Shore

Cape May is known as an exciting summertime destination, full of Victorian architecture and history, bustling crowds, delicious restaurants, unique shops and of course, beautiful beaches. The crowds may thin when the calendar reaches the colder months, but there are still plenty of ways to Do The Shore! Take a break from reality for an offseason getaway, and come see all Cape May has to offer in the winter.

Get toasty and rid the winter blues with tastings and tours at Cape May Winery & Vineyard, Willow Creek Winery, Nauti Spirits Distillery, Cold Spring Brewery and Cape May Brewing Company. Sit back, relax and find your favorite wine or brew.

For theater lovers, Cape May is home to many talented local theater companies. East Lynne Theater Company holds various shows, lectures and workshops throughout the year, while Elaine’s Dinner Theater puts on shows with full course dinners within the walls of a restored Victorian Mansion.

History buffs will enjoy the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities’ historic Emlen Physick Estate. Take a tour and discover the past behind this 18-room mansion and the Victorian homes that border it.

The Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May Point offers one of the county’s best vantage points, and in the winter enables you to take in the beauty of the beach without summer crowds.

The Cape May Bird Observatory also proves to be a great lookout point when it’s cold outside.

Nearby in Villas, a live interactive entertainment experience awaits at Escape Cape May, where players solve codes, clues and puzzles to escape the alternate reality they’ve entered.

Select stores are open this time of year at the Washington Street Mall for those shopaholics.

And of course, Cape May is home to some of the best restaurants at the Jersey Shore (with little to no waits in the winter!).
